UniConnect is a web and mobile application that focuses on the overall academic development of students.

Project Scope

Wilson Wings was approached by Uniconnect to create a brand identity and redesign their existing app to improve communication between colleges and students, ultimately leading to better educational outcomes. The goal was to create a logo that represents happy students and bridging the gap between colleges and students and to update the app to include additional features such as tools for college syllabus and academic details, as well as document sharing, note-taking, and related online courses.

Goals

  1. Redesign the existing edtech app
  2. Incorporate new features for both colleges and students.
  3. Design a visually appealing and intuitive user interface.
  4. Providing personalized learning experiences

Challenges

  1. Ensuring compatibility of the updated app.
  2. Balancing feature expansion with user-friendliness and accessibility.
  3. Keeping up with edtech design trends to stay competitive.
  4. Adopting a blended raster and vector style approach for the app.

Outcomes

The new interface was intuitive and user-friendly, featuring a simple search and find feature for courses and colleges.  The use of a blended raster and vector style approach gave the app a unique and visually appealing look.  The overall outcome was a success, achieving the client’s goals of improving communication and enhancing the user experience for students.

Styleguides

Based on our discovery session with the Uniconnect Team , we decided to come up with three different moodboards.

The final design which was approved by the client was the combination of raster and vector approach.  We used,

  • Blue for authenticity
  • modern vectors for a contemporary look
  • Proxima Nova for professionalism
  • Rasters for emotional connection
Logo Design

The logo design process began with a focus on representing the happy students.

 

After several rounds of revisions, we arrived at a straightforward yet impactful logo design featuring a smiling letter U, symbolizing the connection between colleges and Happy students.

Ux Design

The UX design process for this edtech app began with conducting thorough user research to gain insight into the needs and behaviors of the students.

This research informed the creation of a site map, which outlined the structure of the app, which involved organizing the various features, such as courses, universities, syllabus, academic details and university dashboard.

Based on the approved sitemap, we created wireframes that served as the blueprint for the app's visual design.

UI Design

Once the wireframes were finalized, we began designing the visual elements of the app, including brand color, typography, icons, vectors and imagery. 

We incorporated whitespace and a clean, minimalistic design to emphasize the app's simplicity and ease of use. The use of modern vectors also helped to create a contemporary and professional look.

The use of rasters for emotional connection was also incorporated into the final design, creating a visually appealing and engaging experience for the user.

Our design, which was loved by the client for its simplicity and modernity, led to the successful launch of the edtech app, resulting in over 50,000 downloads and positive user feedback.
